Winchester Embroiderers' Guild welcomes contemporary and traditional textile artists, embroiderers and craft enthusiasts
Every year the Branch runs several in-house competitions and members also enter work in regional and national competitions. Our own exhibition is held once every three years. All branch members are encouraged to enter our branch competitions, which are held at our May and Christmas meetings and submit entries for our Winchester exhibition.
May Competition
The Esme Parker Award for Handstitching. The work can be in any media but must show use of handstitching. Esme was a branch member for a number of years, a great support to the branch and served as Secretary. Her greatest love was hand stitching, primarily black work and canvas work bu open to try any new ideas. The award, an engraved glass plate, was presented to the branch by her family in her memory.
Christmas Competition
This can include two categories, a themed section (often taken from the theme used for the annual EG Open Competition) and an Open Competition. Both Young Embroiderers Groups also take part in a special YE section.
The Dorothy Carbonell Award is awarded for one of the categories at the Christmas competition. The Gwynyth Whitaker Award is presented to the member who achieves the most votes overall or the member who recieves the most votes for Best in Show at our exhibition.
Both Dorothy and Gwynyth were founder members of the branch.
