Winchester Embroiderers' Guild welcomes contemporary and traditional textile artists, embroiderers and craft enthusiasts
Members can enter work in regional and national competitions. Every year our Branch runs two in-house competitions and members are encouraged to enter.
The Esme Parker Award for Handstitching.
For this competition, work can be in any media but must show use of handstitching. Esme was a branch member for a number of years, a great support to the branch and served as Secretary. Her greatest love was hand stitching, primarily blackwork and canvas work but she was open to try new ideas. The award, an engraved glass bowl, was presented to the branch by her family in her memory and is presented annually to the winner.
The Dorothy Carbonell Award
Our winter competition is normally unthemed and open to all forms of textile art. The Young Embroiderers Group also takes part in a special YE section.
Gwynyth Whitaker Award
The Gwynyth Whitaker Award is presented to the member who achieves the most votes for Best in Show at our exhibition. Our exhibition is usually held once every three years at the Discovery Centre, Winchester to which members can each submit up to three pieces of work.
Both Dorothy and Gwynyth were founder members of the branch.
