Winchester Embroiderers' Guild welcomes contemporary and traditional textile artists, embroiderers and craft enthusiasts

This community project was inspired by the National Embroiderers Guild theme for 2019, Homes, as our contribution towards the National Day of Stitch.
Initial preparation included dying the fabric and cutting it into strips. To provide a starting point for embroidery, some outlines of homes were stitched and some pieces of fabric were appliqued on but many are individuals’ own designs.
On 22nd June, 2019, the National Day of Stitch, a ‘stitch in’ was held at Closs and Hamblin in Winchester where members of the public were encouraged to add stitches to the panels. The response was very positive, with people aged from 6 – 80+ taking part.
Since then many of our guild members, as well as friends and family, have contributed to this ongoing project with many pairs of hands working on each strip. Some people who had never embroidered before have been pleased to find a new hobby.
As the project nears completion, one member created the house structure on which all our homes are displayed.
We hope you enjoy looking at the wide variety of homes, settings and inhabitants, both real and fictional.
