Stitching Group

stitching groupThe Stitching Group will resume later in the year if there is sufficient interest. We are considering a different date and a different venue - if you would be interested in attending a morning session once a month please let Eliza know. 

 

Sales Table

Untll we have found a solution to our storage problem we will be running our Sales Table with the "Adopt a Box" Scheme. You can help by bringing a box of textile craft items you no longer want. All money raised will go to Branch Funds. Please remember to take your box home with you at the end of the afternoon. For more infomation please contact Karen.

WEG Workshops

NOVEMBER TALK AND WORKSHOP:  Lizzy Pye:  Crewel Work

RSN-trained traditional embroiderer Lizzy Pye (nee Lansbury) will talk to us at our November meeting about the History of Crewel work including the Jacobean period, discussion of the style and techniques involved in this popular and beautiful embroidery form.
 
Lizzy graduated with distinction from the RSN and has authored a book for them on whitework.  She is now working on a goldwork book.  Lizzie also worked on Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress.
 
Sign up at the September meeting 
to Lizzy’s workshop on 15 November – there is a limit of 10 spaces.  Lizzy will bring along a crewel work design and traditional hand-dyed wools on linen, incorporating stiches such as trellis work, satin stitch, long and short shading and French knots.
 
As well as the workshop cost of £30 (which covers Lizzy’s fee, travel costs and room hire),  Lizzy has proposed an additional £20 a head charge for the kits she will be providing (normal price is £25).   If you want to use your own materials you should bring a sturdy fabric such as linen or denim (or something finer backed with a layer of calico), but of 
course this will not be printed with the pattern so you could design your own or just work on the stitches.   Lizzy recommends chenille needles 22-24 and crewel 5-7. Lizzy will bring crewel wool and materials which you can purchase on the day.
 
Please bring your own small embroidery hoop even if you are buying Lizzy’s workshop kit.  An 8” hoop will be fine.

Winchester Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild is run entirely by a committee of volunteers and other non-committee members, without whose help the branch would not be able to run. We rely on rotas of general members to run the sales table, serve teas/coffees and steward at exhibitions. If you feel you could contribute in any way to help running the branch please contact the chairman. We are currently without a Treasurer (Book-keeping) and in desperate need of someone to come forward to co-ordinate the Sales Table.
